Working at ECC

Our Team

It’s not just our students who get a multicultural experience at ECC. Working alongside individuals from around the world, our teaching staff form part of a truly international work environment. So at ECC we love working with positive and enthusiastic team players who thrive in culturally diverse settings.

English is the functional language of our schools and we try to create an immersive environment for our students. While Japanese ability is certainly encouraged and helpful for life in Japan, it is not required for working at ECC.

Our Students

What kind of people study at ECC? Considering our diverse student base, the better question might be: what kind of people don’t?

At the Foreign Language Institute in particular, our students range from pre-school age to retirees. They come with a wide range of backgrounds, study goals and interests. But all share one dream: to connect with the world through language.

Our students are very motivated and many will study with us for years. Our role is to encourage and empower our students to become successful English communicators.

Our Courses

Offering a wide range of courses to suit all ages and levels, our goal is to contribute to the development of our students’ capabilities by providing programs focusing on speaking, listening, reading and grammar.

Kids’ English World is our custom program for children aged 18 months to 12 years of age, focusing on foundational and practical communication skills. Classes are educational, fun and give students the opportunity and confidence to interact in English. Class sizes are small, up to ten students, and are 30 to 60 minutes in length.

Adult lessons develop global communication skills, as well as expand students’ cultural awareness and critical thinking skills. These lessons are communicative and allow students to improve their abilities in a fun and friendly learning atmosphere. Small classes mean teaching staff build real rapport with students and can easily monitor progression and confidence. Adult classes typically range from 40 to 80 minutes in length and may have as many as twelve students.

Our Work Day

Students tend to study after their regular school or work days, as well as in their free time. Consequently most classes are taught afternoons, evenings and weekends.

A typical seven hour work day consists of a mixture of classes for both children and adults of various levels and about 5-6 hours of class time. Outside the classroom, team members work together to create a welcoming atmosphere for students, provide additional student care and offer feedback and study advice. It’s a full and engaging day and there’s always something going on.

Our Package and Benefits

ECC proudly offers one of the industry’s most competitive employment packages. Key points include:

Contract length and commitment

ECC has potential start dates year round. Contracts are aligned to finish with our academic year at the end of March and are eligible for renewal. We ask for a commitment of at least 12 months in Japan and completion of the contract year.

Some stay for just a contract, but most happily spend a few years and many others make it a career.
